Dune repair and vegetation - beyondeyelevel
At the beginning of repair and recovery. The garden waste has been removed, and we are starting to removed the dead bitou sticks. We are short of replacement plants and remove the Singapore Daisy a little at a time. Note healthy Pigface on north side which tends to grown down rather than across the dune. See at time left the dune grasses coming into seed. There are more bare areas than is ideal but best I can do. Some people say that garden waste helps to protect the dune by stopping the sand blowing away; better than established natives are growing there as they do the job better. Lawn grass clippings may introduce non native grasses which do not do well on the dune face. Once the natives get re established in turn they seem to inhibit the growth of the exotics.
