Dune repair and vegetation - beyondeyelevel
Just north of my place is an area where the dune was dead due to years of accumulated garden rubbish being dumped there. I have cleared off the rubbish. This situation of damp, no light, and probably hypoxic environment was probably favoured the growth of undesirable non native plants like the Singapore Daisy. The dead sticks are bitous which has been poisoned but not yet removed. I believe that any poisoned plant should be removed, but this is not practiced. The poison needs be got out of the growing area as soon as it has done its job. It is amazing how the dune can come to life, and I think sun light may activate seeds dormant in the soil. The pigface and grasses really come to life. We have built a fence along the top to inhibit people from climbing up an down the dune face.
